Meet artist, surfer & designer Anais Vannucchi

We recently connected with Anais (@anais_vannucchi), a talented freelance designer, jewellery maker, and passionate surfer who’s charting her own course across the globe. Balancing her creative work with her love for the ocean, Anais has crafted a life filled with adventure, artistry, and the freedom to explore new shores. Join us as we dive into her journey of combining work and play, all while making waves—both in her designs and on her surfboard.

How does the rhythm of the ocean influence your approach to graphic design? Do you find parallels between surfing and creativity?

Yes, a lot! Just like surfing, drawing, meditating, or playing music, they are all activities that bring you into a flow state, where time fades, and you’re fully present in the moment. The ocean keeps me calm, and it's my happy place where I feel connected to nature and to myself.

Your designs have a unique vibe—how do you channel your free spirit into your artwork, and what keeps your creative energy flowing?

I’m lucky to have built a lifestyle around my passions, which keeps my energy levels high. Traveling to inspiring places, meeting beautiful people from around the world, embracing new cultures, and spending hours outside surfing or sketching in little village cafés fills me with so much inspiration.

What’s your favourite place to catch waves, and does that spot inspire any particular colour palettes or themes in your design work?

It’s hard to pick just one, but two spots in the Philippines and Morocco hold a special place in my heart. I love the warm terracotta hues from North Africa and the tropical vibes from the Philippines. But honestly, every place has its own magic and offers something special.

As someone who balances a love for the ocean with a passion for design, how do you stay grounded and inspired in both worlds?

Traveling a lot means I’ve picked up some personal tricks to stay grounded. I love setting up little routines wherever I go and hanging out with other creatives. Chatting with them sparks new ideas, and I absolutely love the creative brainstorming about new things.

If you could create a graphic design piece that represents freedom, what elements would you include, and how would it reflect your personal journey?

For me, freedom means many things, but above all, it’s the ability to choose your own path, follow your intuition, and live a life tailored to who you truly are. It’s an incredible gift and a great privilege. Through my designs, I want to reflect a life that’s free, blissful under the sun, and made of simple things.
